Back to Mischa: Mischa Barton has revealed that she is taking a break from acting to get a better understanding of Hollywood. The British-born actress told Marie Claire that being thrust into the industry as a teenager was difficult. She said: “I didn’t understand it. When you’re 16, you don’t know what the hell you’re getting into. Like, I had no clue. Los Angeles was a shock to the system.” The 22-year-old added that she regrets being compared to socialites Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. She explained: “Sometimes I am a bit surprised when people come up to me and they’re like, ‘You’re so nice! I didn’t expect you to be so cool’. It’s so weird because I’m like, ‘Well, how did you expect me to be?’ I’m not really sure what people’s preconceived notions are.” Speaking about her DUI arrest last year, Barton commented: “It was a low point in my life. I mean, the truth of the matter is, I was being irresponsible to begin with - I moved to LA and never got a licence. “I don’t know, it was just an awful low for me.” Mischa, who has previously dated Whitestarr frontman Cisco Adler and oil heir Brandon Davies, is now romancing Rooney guitarist Taylor Locke but admits her emotions are constantly changing. She added: “I’m lucky to know you can have more than one soulmate in life. But, like a true actress, I’m always changing the way I feel about who I want to be. Nowadays, I feel I’m settling more into a woman and I am understanding who I am.”

Actress Mischa Barton was left disgusted with herself after her drunk driving arrest last year, because she can’t stand drunk drivers. The former The O.C star pleaded guilty to a DUI in April and was sentenced to three years probation following her arrest in December. She tells Britain’s Marie Claire magazine, “The thing is, I hate drunk drivers. Living in L.A., I can’t stand them, and that’s why I was so disappointed in myself. I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously, so I went to rehab to prove I was sober. “It really helped in getting the more serious aspects of my case dropped because, you know, that’s what they want to hear: you’re not an alcoholic, and you don’t have a problem.” And the actress believes a lot of young Hollywood star’s problems stem from the fact they are hounded by the media, insisting the gossip press can send stars “crazy.” She explains, “I don’t look at the gossip Web sites — it’s unhealthy, and I think it’s a large part of what drives people in L.A. crazy.”

Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton has denied she was dropped by her agent because she hasn’t landed any big roles since leaving the hit TV show. The actress was rumoured to have been dropped by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) - which represents stars including Drew Barrymore and Natalie Portman - after failing to land any high profile acting jobs. She has now joined New York-based Paradigm Agency and a representative for the star insists she made the switch voluntarily. The spokesperson tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, “Mischa left CAA - she was not dropped.”
