Mischa Barton has reportedly admitted that she thinks her character in The O.C. was a bad influence on young girls. The actress, who played reckless socialite Marissa Cooper in the series, said that things got “a bit out of control” because of the show and harmed society as a result. Barton told Fearne Cotton: “As fun as it was and cool as it was, it spawned all these reality TV shows like The Real O.C. and The Real Laguna or whatever. “That’s gotten a bit out of control… For me, it’s a bit funny because I feel like I almost aided the problem for young girls and for that genre.”

Fearne Cotton returns with her Fearne and… series tonight as she meets Hollywood starlet Mischa Barton. The TV presenter visits former OC star Mischa at her home in LA and goes driving about in her Cadillac. Fearne then visists the actress while she is in London and discovers that she was born in the city and her sister is a barrister there. As Fearne spends more time with Mischa, she starts to ask her about more sensitive subjects like her weight, which has been up and down over the last few years. To explain her choices of subjects for her show, Fearne said: “Each person I choose to follow around has to be someone I’m genuinely intrigued by. Someone I think people talk about a lot but maybe don’t know the whole story.” Fearne and Mischa Barton will be broadcast tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.

The first episode of the series sees Fearne meet Hollywood actress Mischa Barton. Mischa shot to fame with her role as Marissa in The OC back in 2003. She has rarely been seen on our screens since her character was killed in 2006 but the press are still fascinated with her, following and documenting her every move. Fearne sets out to discover what Mischa is doing now and why she causes such intrigue. She visits Mischa at her home in LA and goes out in her Cadillac with her and the actress explains that she is constantly living under the gaze of the paparazzi. Fearne also visits Mischa when she is in London and discovers that she was born in the city and her sister is a barrister there. Mischa tells Fearne: “Growing up in New York but having a very English family and background has really served me well, I think.” Fearne visits the office where Mischa designs her handbags and tries to find out about her night out the evening before with singer Amy Winehouse. The presenter also goes with Mischa to one of her London boltholes and gets to meet some of her friends. Plus, as Fearne spends more time with her, she starts to question her about more sensitive subjects like her weight, which has been a hot topic of debate in the press.

SKIN “I have quite nice skin, but I’m very fair so I make sure I always have suncream with me. I look after my skin with Dr Hauschka face moisturisers and Yves Saint Laurent Instant Pur Self-Foaming Cleanser, £21.”
